ArtfulSEL App Privacy Policy

Artful SEL (“we,” “our,” or “us”) values your family’s privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when parents and children use the Artful SEL mobile application (the “App”).

Artful SEL is designed for children, but accounts are created and managed by parents or legal guardians.

1. Information We Collect

Information Collected About Children

With parental consent, we collect limited information about children to personalize the app experience and support parent insight:

  • Child’s first name (or nickname)

  • Age

  • Gender (optional, if selected)

  • Child’s photo (optional and parent-initiated)

  • Child’s mood or emotional state selections (as entered by the child during app activities)

Mood information is collected only within the App and is used to help parents better understand patterns in their child’s emotions over time.

Uploading a child’s photo and recording mood information are optional. The App remains usable without them.

We do not collect last names, contact information, precise location, voice recordings, or sensitive identifiers from children.

Information Collected From Parents

Parents create and manage accounts for their children. We may collect:

  • Parent email address (for account access, support, and important app communication)

  • Account login information

Payment information is processed entirely by the Apple App Store.
Artful SEL does not collect, store, or have access to payment details.

Automatically Collected Information

We use Firebase to support app functionality and reliability. Firebase may collect limited technical data such as:

  • App usage data (e.g., feature interactions)

  • Device type and operating system

  • Crash reports and performance data

This data is used only to maintain and improve the App.

2. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Personalize the child’s app experience

  • Display mood information to parents in the Parent Section

  • Help parents notice emotional patterns over time

  • Provide core app functionality

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App

  • Respond to parent inquiries or support requests

We do not use personal information for advertising or behavioral targeting.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties.

Information is shared only:

  • With Firebase as a service provider for analytics and app stability

  • If required by law or to protect the safety and rights of users

Child mood data and photos:

  • Are not public

  • Are only visible to the parent account

  • Are not shared with other users

4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Artful SEL complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

  • Parents provide consent and manage accounts

  • Child mood data is collected solely to support parental awareness

  • Parents may review, update, or delete their child’s information at any time

5. Parental Rights

Parents or legal guardians may:

  • Review their child’s personal information

  • View and manage mood history

  • Update or remove a child’s photo

  • Request deletion of child data

  • Withdraw consent for data collection

6. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including:

  • Secure authentication

  • Limited data access

  • Trusted infrastructure providers (Firebase)

No system is completely secure, but we work to protect information responsibly.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to provide the App’s services or as required by law. Parents may request deletion at any time.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be posted with an updated effective date.
